I have just taken over as treasurer of a (very) small church Parochial
Church Council. The existing accounts are all wholly manual and I
want to move to some level of computerisation.

I see nothing wrong there - the SET command does not return any output.
Please try the 3rd command - it should show you your key:

Thank you Richard, I had a look at that.
The one color I have problems with is the text labeling an empty field's
contents: typically, the labels Num, Action and Notes. The default I see now
with Arc-Dark is light grey text on a light blue background, which is low
contrast.

Geoff,
Thanks for the directions. I'll give them a try.
One thing I'm having trouble with is that I don't see how to handle a
sell that covers more than one lot. If I have a Sell for 200 shares, and
I assign it to a 50 share lot, the manager notes that the lot has (150)
shares available on it
I have current accounts in EUR, USD, and GBP. The way I track my expenses
currently is: if the expense is exclusively in one of the currencies (e.g.
UK bills in GBP), then the expense account is in GBP. Otherwise, it's in the
"home" currency of EUR. This requires using exchange rates when, for

That file is not created be default as it's not required for gnucash to run.
You can create it

./.themes/Prof-XFCE-2.1-Light-Panel/xfce-notify-4.0/gtk.css
I placed the copy which Geert suggested here:
