I tried several times to install Gnucash 3 over an existing 2.6.20
installation. Gnucash 3 would not launch.
I have now clean-installed Gnucash 3.o on a second PC and it opens my
database immediately.
However, of course I no longer have the reports written by Cindy and others

Ah, yes, that worked. I had to check "show unused accounts". Thanks!

Ankur,
I suggest filing a bug report about that second point in the budget report
if you have already migrated to release 3.0 and you still see it there.
That report has been revised rather recently and I do not remember exactly
when. I recall years ago there were some issues in that report which

Another user tracked down the cause of that exception in his file to a bad

an invoice. The exception was due to trying to convert ‘206-‘ into a number.
I’ve changed the date parser logic to prevent the ex

I saved my .gnucash file as .xml.gnucash file.
In my next data entry session, I forgot about this and entered some
transactions. These were entered into the .xml.gnucash file.
Now I want to go back to using my old .gnucash file. How do I recover the
transactions I entered into .xml.gnucash file.
I download and ran the new, stable version 3.0. When I click on the
desktop icon I first get a notice that my Gnucash data file is locked.
Since I properly closed the file before I upgraded I click on "open
anyway". After some delay a box appears named Microsoft C++ Visual

The function of ‘placeholder’ for the account is separate than the function of
rolling up the totals of sub accounts in the budget module. As far as I can
tell, they are not related in any way. I have several parent accounts that are
not placeholders, but I don’t enter budgets for them, I only e

It works. Thanks. Using export to .csv and import from .csv is way more
difficult.

I am trying to deal with Return of Capital events happening over a series of
dates, therefore a series of lots.
For whatever reason, I am not able to adjust individual lot amounts.
Example:
Tx 0:January 1,2017
$1000 DR Stock:XYZ Corp 100 sh @ $10/shr
$1000 CR Cash
And in ACTION->View Lots

Once it’s set for a book it can’t be changed in the GUI.
Thanks for the info, Joh

Dear Gnucash Team,
I have nee using Gnucash since 2003 !!
All my personal finance is in there, in a 17Mo file (database).
Since I update to 3.0, loading those data literally takes half an hour, BUT
most of the time Windows 10 will write "not responding".
To be honest, it was slow already on 2.6.1
I am using GnuCash 2.6.19. I received your message, that I could now install
GnuCash 3.0. dmg. I have tried it, but it does not work.
I get the message “Verifying GnuCash app, then I am asked to open it, but when
I tick “open”, nothing happens.
In the “Finder” the app GnuCash 3.0 can be seen

Using: gnucash-3.0 on Slackware Linux 14.2
When an account's register is open, the tab should show the account name.
With GnuCash-3.0 I'm seeing something very odd. Account names of 6
characters and longer are correctly displayed using a tab of the correct
width. Account names shorter than 6 char
Gnucash v2.6.17 on Windows 10 doesn't handle Return-of-Capital
transactions on a lot-by-lot basis. I'm not sure about v3.0.
The total basis can be reduced in a transaction but the gains/losses
won't be calculated correctly.
