text at the end of the string of the formula, and edited my escrow
payment to the correct amount.

to also change the total payment amount or whichever split line is
appropriate by that same amount to avoid the imbalance when the real
monthly transaction is created.

A screenshot of the scheduled transaction would be helpful:
Actions / Scheduled Transactions / Scheduled Transaction Editor
Double click the transaction to open the Editor
Click on the Template Transaction tab.
