Sorry, I had left the other TIAA funds using the TIAA source but had
accidentally set QREARX to use AlphVantage. Switching it to using TIAA as the
source works again.

Having re-read the FAQ, I think it may just be a time-out problem. I may
have to change the cron job to the middle of the night - at least until
there's a change in gnucash that will recognize this and allow for the
extra time.

I have just obtained the API key from ALPHAVANTAGE, but I do not have a
clue how to add it to my LinuxMint or MacOs. (I am not technical) :-[
Could someone please walk me through this process, so I can begin
updating stock and currency prices?

alphavantage doesn't list available symbols, but seems to use the same
symbols as yahoo. So you might try finding the symbol by finding it
with the yahoo finance site.

On my xubuntu, gnc-fq-update isn't there. I ran
sudo perl -MCPAN -e shell
Then in the perl shell:
reload index
upgrade Finance::Quote
If I didn't 'reload index' it wasn't getting the latest.
