Liz,
I know you've solved the mystery already, but I noticed in your
screenshot that the Status Bar shows 'Cleared' and 'Reconciled' amounts.
To anyone stumbling on this same issue, those can serve as visual flags
that something is amiss if you've never reconciled that account.

I would suggest copying that entire message into a bug report. Especially
be sure to include that you had said "Do not tell me again this session
that I am changing a
reconciled transaction" as that may be the key to the puzzle. The
developers can figure out which details don't matter and whi

If I understand correctly, at some point intentionally or unintentionally
you were able to move a previously reconciled transaction from one account
to a different account without changing the reconciliation status. I just
tried that in release 3.8 and I received a warning that the reconcili

I know that GnuCash uses an internal thing that you must be calling
*identity* rather the text string that appears in the display, but I
couldn't remember what GnuCash called it.

I think that reconcile flags, especially the 'Y' flag indicating that the
transaction split line passed the reconcile assistant, should be cancelled
if the account name in that split line is changed. I have noticed some
suspicious anomalies in this regard in the past, but I did not perform a

Liz,
That would seem to imply that some transactions have been marked as
reconciled somewhere in the account history, not necessarily a single
transaction for $6300. One possible suggestion, have you cleared all filters
that might restrict the date range displayed for the account? There may be

The reconcile dialogue says it has a starting balance of $6,300.
I have no idea from where this starting balance has come. The first
entry is $1.87.
I can't find any entry in any account
