Hi,
The www.gnucash.org server is hosted out of Austin, TX.
With the Ice Storms the other day, the hosting location had a power
outage, and unfortunately the machine did not boot up when the power came
back.
Linas is working on the issue.

Fran,
Our Beloved Founder, Linas Vepstas, hosts the website server. IIUC it's a
dedicated box, more for his convenience than because of the website's traffic
load.

Just wondering who host the website?
Also, is it a shared server or is the traffic so intense that it takes a
dedicated server?Thanks, Fran3

Does the website need to be up and running for updating security prices in
the Price Editor? Everytime I attempt to update prices since the website
went down, it hangs gnucash and I have to kill the process to exit the
program. This always leave the program with a lockfile open and I have to

John,
Oh dear, my apologies. I had looked at the Tutorial, and did not at glance find
the same content that I was using online. I see now that it is indeed the same
thing, with the same detail. Thank you for pointing that out.

You're mistaken. The Tutorial and Concepts Guide is available via the Help

Mac and Windows bundles have it built in.

Thanks for that link. However, I am at the point of setting up my investments,
and had created the brokerage account and was just getting started on setting
up the security accounts. For this purpose I was using chapter 9 in the online

Note that this is very rare. The server was planned to be migrated to new
hardware sometime in the near future as I understand it. Possibly that is
happening now, and it is more persnickety than anticipated.
The fact that the mailing list is still up and running is a good sign however.

Linas reports that https://www.gnucash.org is down with a hardware failure.
He'll try to get it working on a secondary server today; failing that the
replacement hardware is due in a day or three.
