After the manual installation following Geoff's suggestions I finally got
to the point where GnuCash appeared to run FQ 1.51 and download today's
prices ?? Then I noticed that this is still Sunday, which might explain
why the latest saved prices are still from Friday.
I guess I can move on to my
Hi David Carlson
The "getperl.vbs" script is a GnuCash file, not Strawberry:

I am running GnuCash v4.8 on Windows 10 and it is located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\
However, I recommend that you:

installed there and I don't have that file either. May be temporary during
installation, suggest you check under Control Panel\All Control Panel
Items\Programs and Features and see if it thinks it's partially installed?
If so, r
Thank you David. I tried the Install online price retrieval for GnuCash
script again and it still gives the error about the missing .vbs file. Do
you know how that file is supposed to be created?

Sudesh,
I think you have completed the installation correctly. Since you also
obtained a key from Alpha Vantage you should be able to use their service
to download prices if they provide the ones that you want. For some stock
quotes you may get better results using one of the other services that

Hello Geoff,
Many thanks for the fast reply.
Actually the Perl scripts ran longer than 30 minutes much closer to 3 hours

Hi Sudesh
Some of the required Perl modules take a considerable time to install
and the process may appear to "freeze" when in fact it is only "resting".
Can you try again - you need to run the "gnc-fq-update" script located
in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\" directory - and send a
Hello Group,
I am a new user of GNU cash and have recently downloaded and installed Gnucash
ver 4.5 on a windows 10 64 bit machine.
I am trying to run the script for Installing online price retrieval and the
command line freezes after a while.
It installed the Strawberry perl just fine and the i
Thanks for the run down John,
I see your point. I’ll use the Github/gnucash.org hashes from now on. I had
heard SourceForge was sketchy a while back and I agree one can’t be too careful.

Thanks John,
I knew they were there. I only pointed her to SourceForge because she’d been
there already.
I should have also pointed out the announcement thread and/or the posting of
the announcement directly on the GnuCash site. There’s always more than one way
to tackle something.

First, now that you’ve verified you want to open the app, try opening it with a
left-click from LaunchPad or left double-click from the Applications folder. Be
sure not to try launching the app from within bundle. Only launch from

‘GnuCash.app’, ‘FinanceQuote Update.app’ and a few .txt files. If you get th

box that says “verifying Gnucash. Then the next dialog box says "Gnucash is an
application dowloaded form the Internet. Are you sure you want to open?" I
confirm by clicking “open” and then the file closes/crashes.
