Basically this is the default behaviour for a new install. Either use the
file menu to create a new file or use File >> Open
Similar to what I wrote yesterday (but no reaction yet) - I had a new
disk - no data files on a separate partition - but as my screen-print
showed, after installation there was no program visible on the screen,
but only the small note: "Unsaved Book - GnuCash"

I did a clean reinstall on windows on my PC and then reinstalled GNU
Cash. My GNUCash data file was located on a separate partition so
following reinstallation I just opened the data file with GNU and that
all worked fine. However I also had linked documents located on the
separate partition
