I thought I understood how to do this but I am confused - trying to run Gnucash
on second computer and having access to the same data file. I thought I was
keeping my data file on Dropbox - that is the one I open and enter data. When I
go to secondary computer and open Gnucash the file has not b

and will overwrite all changes made on earlier writes.

FileName.gnucash.MMDDHHMMSS.gnucash means you are using a backup file.
If you're using DROPBOX... *THAT* could be the problem. It could be that
there is a problem creating or deleting the lock file.
