case of Your Books vs. the Bank's Books.
You keep Your Books.
The Bank keeps theirs.
You then reconcile the two. (which does *not* involve changing dates)
This is the formal terminology that the accountancy expert bodies deem
"revenue recognition". Numerous formal (see IFRS and GAAP) publications
exist, with a much better supporting evidence than our informal discussions
here.

I doubt it - I am often prompted for the data format when doing QIF imports.

regarding regular QIF imports (vs investment ones). That would require
installing the latest fix update if I understood what I read.

It usually means that GnuCash is not quitting cleanly. Are there any errors in
the tracefile? (https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile).
In the SQL backend it's actually a record in the gnclock table, so a simpler
work-around would be to use the postgres CLI to remove that record.

Just out of curiosity is the word "Discover" somehow a protected word,
function, directive or key word in the Gnucash code? Everytime I import my
Discover Card qif it asks me for the date format. No other qif import does.
