Amar,
Just sayin' If you imported your data into GnuCash 4.12 a month ago, then
you only need to open that data file and import a months' data into GnuCash
4.13, not the whole thing.

I think the QIF file is fine.
I was able to import it into Moneyspire and Acemoney just now
I was able to import a similar file (exported from Moneydance) into GnuCash
less than a month ago.

Yes, but it's over a month old. I was able to import a QIF file from the
same source, Moneydance.
Now, I'm trying the same process again with a more recent version.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
I will try these out and it would appear that my concerns will be solved.
Much appreciated.

I agree.
I have three backup systems for my computer:
• I have an external disk attached to it and set up MacOS Time Machine to
backup to that disk.
• I pay a cloud company to backup my computer (Currently CrashPlan/Code42 but I
have thought about switching to BackBlaze).
• And I use SuperDuper

This kind of thing is generally your responsibility. I can't think of a
single bit of software I use for work - be it CAD, document writing,
spreadsheet, or whatever - that does backup of my data for me. That task
is on me, and rightly so. The time my computer suffered a complete

Backup is a system function. You need to plan that for all your data
beyond just GnuCash.
You can do a simple Save As to put that data in another spot. But that
leaves your spreadsheets unprotected.

Can a simple backup function be added to gnucash?
I am very concerned that if my computer fails I will lose all my data. I
want to store the backup data to external storage such as a memory stick.

Hello Murugan,
On my live setup rounding happens for all currencies, including the default
currency. That is the problem for which I started this thread in the beginning.
In addition, this rounding leads to discrepancies in payment processing.

Amar,
do you have a data file from a previous version of GnuCash?

Please remember to copy the list on all replies.
Looks like you had a ton of errors so it didn't load the file.

Amar,
Please use "Reply All" to keep the conversation on the mailing list
so other users can chip in and help. I rarely use any importers and are
just offering suggestions that may or may not help :-) See John Ralls's
reply which is probably more germane than mine. To me it looks like your

In this case there generally is no need to have an account in another currency.

What OS ? How large is your QIF history file - perhaps it's still working
on it and you need to give it more time ? Have you clicked on another
Window and taken the focus away from you dialog ?

I just downloaded version 4.13 and am trying to import my QIF history. I go
through the import process and it seems to be working fine, but when I get
to the step where it asks if I want to load another file or continue (with
"Next"), I find "Next" grayed out and none of the clickable buttons work.
I don't think you'd have separate accounts. But you might want to turn
on the Trading Accounts feature that can handle adjusting splits for
multi-currency transactions. (such as getting paid in USD, but the bank
shows receipt in GBP)
I dare hazard a guess that if your account is denominated in

I am neither an accountant nor particularly expert at GnuCash, though I've used
it for a dozen years or so. But if I understand what you are saying it sounds
crazy to me.
I have several bank accounts in USD and several in MXN. I have one account in

My Bank is a UK bank, but I sometimes buy things in $HKD, and fairly

Should I set up accounts like this? (American's call them checking
accounts, but we don't here).

Since the accounts were not set up optimally, I'd rather just delete them,
and start again. There are less than a dozen entered.

hi Alaa
this is the behaviour i also observerd, so the rounding is controlled by the
currency of the customer. so probably you can try a new customer in your
existing install and check
