Not sure if this applies to gnucash app, but when I download certain software,
I get an option to download standard or debug package. The latter is
significantly larger in size. I’m guessing if one is running a debug packaged
app, its RAM usage would be high.

Have you looked at the Cash Flow report? It is under the Income &
Expense reports menu. It totals all the debits to the selected
account(s) by contra-account, and (separately) all the credits to the
selected account(s) also by contra-account.

I suppose if you wanted to track it better, you could create an account
(category) that would be credited for the pier diem payments and debited as
