Peter,

We need more information to hazard a guess whether your issue is the same
as that of Gyle or if it is just similar.
Do you save your data file on a hard drive? Do you encrypt it?
Do you use cloud storage for backup?
Do you use Windows
This is interesting.
I have had this problem of gnucash intermittently not removing the LOCK
file for some time.
My method of closing gnucash is firstly to save the data and the close
using the menu. I always follow this process and never use the 'X' method.

I tried OneDrive with gc for a while. It worked until it didn’t. I’m still not
sure what happened, but I think MS unilaterally decided to reorganize my
OneDrive setup. Gc just did not like what it did and starting one day gc would
not open the file. I’m not sure what was wrong, and I couldn’t f

I have been using GnuCash from a dropbox folder linked to both my laptop,
desktop and my wifes tablet for 8-9 years with no prolems as long as only one

Will,
Thank you very much for your detail instruction. I will update my Gnucash to 3,

Hi, I began using GnuCash at the beginning of 2021. Since the onset, I've had
it in a OneDrive folder. I've had no problems with it syncing between my

Odd. On my machine, it all works as expected. Save, Cancel, and Close without
Saving.
Any chance you might try a reinstallation?

GnuCash will create a log file and a backup file copy each time it exits and
depending on you preference settings will usually keep a fixed number of them in
the same directory as the mainfile. It is good practice to keep your mainfile in
its own directory for this reason. The trick is to pic
I uninstalled GC via flatpak and then reinstalled it. No difference.

Hi David: thanks for the reply. GC via Flatpac is the only issue I
have. Since some of the problems occurred during upgrades.
As far as upgrading Linux MInt: I did upgrade to a 20:1 awhile back, but
it broke some of my other apps. So I went back to 19.3.

I do use Google drive to keep backup copy but I am mindful that I "sync" the
GNC directory from static location from my C: drive to Google Drive as part of
my startup process (mirror via a BAT script in Startup folder using RoboCopy -
Win 10 still has startup folder to throw things in there 😊)
Gerald, I forget how it was done, but I set up OneDrive so that anything saved
to my documents folder is saved to OneDrive. In fact, I think they are one and
the same, but I don't remember the setting. It was so long ago. I have had no
issues with it or using it for GNUCash this way.

I use gnucash in Windows 10 in my OneDrive folder. Occasionally (less that
once a month) I'll get a file locked message when starting GC but I just
delete the lock file in the folder and it's all fine.
Aside from that I have no other file or save issues.
I also backup the GC folder in OneDrive t
Are you running gnu cash locally and the data from onedrive?
I have not used one drive personally but I did use Quickbooks to Dropbox in
real time and that was total fail.

Are there any GnuCash users that store their data files in One Drive?
Are there any issues slow response or keeping a few weeks of backup and log
files?

That's off topic. And I don't use OneDrive. Better to start a different topic.

David T,
Is One Drive able to hide all the file system lags that it introduces from
programs like GnuCash? If so, I need to consider using it. That is why I

David,
What Gyle is describing has nothing to do with OneDrive. Gnucash shouldn't exit
the program when he closes the "Save/Close without Saving/Cancel" dialog box by
clicking the "X" for the dialog-- and it sure shouldn't leave the lock file in
place when it does so. That the lock file still

In addition to David's suggestions, here's one to get debug logs.
In flatpak the log file is not generated by default (due to some internal
conflicts in the
sandbox wrt where gnucash wants to write the log file).
So if you want to generate the logs add
--logto=
to you flatpak command.
