One reason to update regularly, is that someday one may have to update. And it
is generally easier to update from one version to the next than it is to do an
update that skips lots of versions. Data formats change and each version will
support converting from the previous format but probably not

Dear Gnucash users
Wonder if there are any Australian users here or if he/she would be
willing to have a look at our records and help to set up a bookkeeping
procedure using GnuCash that fits the requirements of local
authorities. I'm guessing we need to book an afternoon for this kind

Hi Sharon
IMHO the biggest benefit you will get by upgrading is the reduced data
entry work on transactions when choosing an account by being able to
type in any part of an account name.
To illustrate, consider this account:

At present, you need to type something like
Hello.
I successfully transferred from Quicken to GnuCash years ago, with no
troubles. I'm a home user, nothing complex.
Is there any reason I should upgrade from Version 3.8? Are the changes
mostly for business folks or are there changes that a home user would enjoy?

Thank you both. I didn't know this could be done and it will be a great help,
now that I know how to set it up. Never would have realized that setting it up
as an automatic transaction was my issue.
Thank You,

Thanks,
While there is a way to not enter the amount, it is not an automated
process, and, in a sense, it is not different from putting a random value
and changing it later. Also, if a transaction can't be created
automatically, it means it will be even more manual steps to get it done.

Gyle,
I believe you cannot create a transaction with a variable automatically
created, i.e. do not check the second box in the editor screen. Then it
will ask for a value when you run the since last run assistant.

Hi Eric
I am running GnuCash 4.4 (on Windows) and when I duplicate a share
purchase transaction it doesn't change any of the values.
If I then edit one of the values, a recalculation dialogue box pops up
telling me that "The values entered for this transaction are
inconsistent." and asking m
Derek, this is something I was looking for, however when I tried to put "total"
in the debit and credit formula it wouldn't allow the "s. So I tried with the
quotes and it wouldn't save the scheduled transaction. See the attach screen
shot. Can you tell me what I did wrong?

David,
Please don't write me or other GnuCash developers directly unless explicitly
asked to. Please use the lists, IRC, or the bug tracker.
Yes, Gtk window scaling issues on Monterey have already been reported:

Hello,
I’m using GnuCash on MacOS with language/region set to French Canada.
I had a problem with the decimal separator in GnuCash since updating from MacOS
10.13 to 10.14 . I upgraded to Big Sur (11.4) in the last few days, and the
problem persisted.
In went into my installed Gnucash.app, in

Hi there,
I wonder if it would be possible to schedule a transaction with a variable
amount. For example, if I want to schedule a credit card payment, I need to
provide a fixed amount per transaction although we know that these
amounts vary month to month. Instead, it would be nice to have a way t

Hi,
the invoice I print from Gnucash have become printed smaller for some
reason.
I can't explain it, nor can I find any place to control this. (I
switched from Default to CSS experimental which makes it slightly larger
but still quite smaller than it used to be)
I upgraded to 4.6 as soon as it w
Hi Geoff,
Thanks very much. You have answered all my questions and also some I'd only

Hi Chris
Usually the cash residual is carried forward and is included in the
calculation of your DRP (dividend reinvestment plan) shares in the next
dividend.
The balance is tallied at the individual SRN level within each company
