I can confirm at least on Windows & v4.5 that "Never" will create log files
but not backups.
"Forever" never deletes anything.
And yes they will only get cleared the next time you run GnuCash

When I try to assign an account to a transaction in the register the type-ahead
stalls. After I type one or two characters nothing shows up and I can't edit
the text field for at least a couple of seconds. After the delay I can type a

preferences but I'm still getting a log file created every time I run
Gnucash.
