The crashes I had did not involve thousands separators.
Two occured while I was reconciling an account. I found an entry differed
from a statement, and when I tried to edit the erroneous entry it crashed
(twice).
It occured once more when I edited another entry. I think this wasn't while
recon
I think that it has been odd like that at least since release 2.4.x.

updated if the user selects File > Quit or selects the red x which is in
the upper right corner of the GnuCash window in most operating system
desktops
