The code says that the only thing that disables the tool bar Reconcile item (as
well as Actions>Reconcile... in the menu) is a read-only book. You can get a
readonly book by specifying it on the command line or by selecting "open
read-only" after getting the "GnuCash couldn't obtain the lock" di

The virtual accounts should not be included in a Balance Sheet. Neither
will they affect an Income Statement.
Trying to include them in either would of course, make those reports
incorrect.
Once again, I'm not advocating putting these in the tree under Equity.

Sounds promising. It seems to me if I posted a check, for example, directly to
a "tithe payable" liability account I would not need a separate tithe expense

Chris,
You are in an individual account register when you look at that icon, I

Okay i think i understand more, from Marilyn Kimple's case and now from
searching about "envelope method" in gnucash-user postings (which Adrien
Monteleone pointed me to, thanks!), where Adrien and David Cousens and
Micheal Novack have a number of postings, including in responses to Eric

Don,
What I presented was a way to track something that GnuCash isn't set up
for. There have been prior posts discussing systems like Envelope Method
budgeting and segregating/earmarking funds. These would be cases where
the real-world accounts need to be kept unchanged, but the user wants to

still valid for us Swedish users (and maybe German users according to one
post in the thread?). I wonder if there has been some development along
making transactions "persistent" or read-only/locked/un-changeable?
