I noticed recently that if GnuCash is open and the computer crashes the
settings for reports currently open and open window arrangements are lost,
reverting back, I believe, to the settings as of the last time the program
was shut down normally.

One other thing you can do is to associate an external file to a transaction
in Gnucash, e.g. a pdf copy of a receipt or invoice or other document. It
creates a link which may be used to open that document from within GnuCash.
