Since I have, in fact, bought stuff using foreign currency and entered it
in GnuCash, my books are condemned to imbalance until a correct solution is
implemented.
If Mike's solution isn't to be adopted, where is the alternative?

I completely agree with these documents. I didn't manage to figure out what
was wrong by myself, but clearly this is the right way. As it is, every
time I travel I feel like Gnucash hinders my accounting... why should that
be?

It takes no more than 1GB -- that's about a dollar worth of a laptop
hard drive -- and it builds in less than 8 hours on my 4-year-old machine.
I'm assuming you have the developer tools installed, because after all
you're subscribed to the de
