I have successfully installed gnucash from sources using install.sh from
packaging on a old and slow Windows XP machine
The following url suggests that this file can be run from
c:/soft/gnucash/bin/gnucash

OK. I am using the sql backend with sqlite3 for my regular data and have had
no problems. I can't guarantee anything with mysql, but will try to help you
if you run into any problems.
