After taking a screenshot, a dialog opens "gnome-screenshot"
Name / Save in folder / Copy to Clipboard options are available.
It would be nice if next to "Copy to Clipboard" if there were a crop button
that allowed a quick selection to be made from where the image is shown.

Yes, if you use gnome-screenshot instead of the built-in screenshot
shortcuts. When run in GNOME, the tool uses gnome-shell's ScreenShot D-Bus
API for the actual screen capture,
