I feel the same way as Alexander about the zoom out/in animation,
I think that come from the fade to black transition of background on the
whole screen when you enter in the overview.
If you come from a white page (mostly internet) your eyes have to adapt
quickly to dark

I have thought this at times also, perhaps its of failure of the gnome-shell
UX, when I tend to use synapse for launching applications most of
the time.
There's an extension that speeds up the animation; maybe it can even
make it instantaneous
