I committed the patch attached to
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=566010 which adds a small
configuration dialog for the python console plugin and adds a couple of
translatable strings.

It appears that these changes have also been committed to the GNOME 2.10
branch. Was this done on purpose?
