Hi,
This simple patch makes the gtkspell dependency optional, and removes
the enable spell-checking checkbox in the Prefrences depending on
gtkspell's availability.
I could probably just commit this as it basically counts as a build fix,
but I thought I'd take the safe route since I'm new to

No, in fact I think this will make the translator's job easier.
Also, it would be nice to get help buttons in the UI that open the
manual in yelp. This is usually done with the gnome_help_display()
function in libgnome -- I don't know the equivalent in the Mono

Thinking about it, there aren't many pending patches that need to go in.
Just one patch that breaks the code freeze to remove the gtkspell
dependency. So is there any downside to not branching until after the
September 4th deadline?

The libgnomeui commit [1] by Kristian Rietveld introduced a new string [2],
which is unacceptable in string freeze, 4 days before a release. There has
not been any notification sent out to to gnome-i18n either...
Please revert the patch or make sure you reuse an already existing string.
