So, after recompiling and upgrading the c compiler (which I needed to do anyway) to 5.3.0 gnome now works again -- yay. I have no idea as to what was the problem, which is scary in a certain sense, but I will be glad its working and go on maybe to actually use it! Thanks everyone. On Sun, 16 Oc
