Good idea to move the Alpha to Logo to Filters, but when I try to use one the
text line is greyed out and I can't enter anything ? Am using Ubuntu Hardy on
AMD64 setup. Can anyone help me with this problem ?

This is the intended behaviour
In GIMP 2.6 the menu was moved into the image window, and that is why
it stays open even if you close all the images.

I hate to sound dense, but if there is no File-open function, how do you
get an image onto the page to start with? I tried dragging and dropping
but that didn't work.

Maybe you search the "logo" scripts that before were in the tool
