For what it's worth, I went ahead and implemented a true variable blur filter,
by modifying the "blur" plug-in code from 2.0. I'll put the code in the plug-in

I am running GIMP 1.2.3 under Suse 8.2 and the image mapper plugin, which
works when it does, crashes frequently. I don't see any error message
generated (though maybe I'm looking in the wrong places) but the plugin just
gives up the ghost. Gimp itself stays working, and if I save the map to a

I only got to play with rc1 for less than a day and along
comes 2.0.0 the real thing. I did useful work already with
2.0.0rc1 But I had trouble configuring extra fonts. The
usual drill is to install e.g., freefont according to the
directions in the file, including a couple of fp runs. This
