Hi, All
I think I must be missing something regarding plug-ins. I just installed, or tried to
install, guash and the adaptive contrast enhancement on GIMP 1.2.1 under AIX 4.3.3.
the install, using GIMPTOOL, seemed to work OK. the plug-ins show up on the selection
menus where they should be. t
I am unable to convert an RGB image into an indexed image using a
palette with more than 256 colors.
It didn't work with my palette of ~350 colors (DMC floss RGB
equivalents) and it also didn't work with the visibone palette (the
bigger one).
Is this something that I should have expected?

Unfortunately gimp doesn't have an indexed mode that
supports more than 256 colors (yet). In general, the
indexed mode is rather neglected in gimp. There may
be a plug-in to leave it RGB and reduce the number of
colors used, but I'm not sure what its name would be.

Try running the gimp from a terminal window command line. That
way you can see any error messages it may produce. Perhaps that
will give you some indication of what's going wrong.

Unfortunately I am not able to organize a Gimp booth at the
Linuxtag 2001 (see www.linuxtag.de). I will present a talk
about scripting and plugin-programming, but the work for the
booth is too much for me this year.
Since Linuxtag is the biggest Linux-Event in Europe I'd be
very happy, i
Gimp-generated jpeg files are viewed with web browsers just fine, but
ImageMagick's display says "Cannot map file", but still displays the jpeg.
However, xv will not display them at all. Can anybody shed some light on
these?

How very curious. What version of the Gimp are you using? What
are your jpeg parameters when you save the image? Are you
trying to save something other than an RGB image as a jpeg?
Xv tends to give you something to look at when it can't display
a file. If you view it in hex, (like a hexdum
