Your point is well taken. I do not expect the Gimp people to keep on
top of printing at all.
But why not have Gutenprint be a pre-requisite to Gimp? Why deliver a
broken default printing system?

Native Gimp printing = FAIL
Gutenprint (Gimp plug-in) = WIN
