Au contraire! It's not the GIMP. Just check the EXIF data in file that
your camera produces and you'll see it's your camera that determines
the resolution,

defasult to be 600 x 600 without manually adjusting it each
time using "scale image"?
I use Gimp to print the images.
Gimp 2.6.11 on Salix Linux.
