It sounds like you're describing what is commonly known as "godbeams".
John Woods has several very good Photoshop tutorials online - most can be
easily adapted to The Gimp. Check out this link and look for the godbeams

Gimp Developers,
Thank you for a fine product.
I just merged 7 photos into one of my family. 27 people, 4 generations.
Being able to create a family heirloom such as this made me (continue to)
appreciate The Gimp. Thank You.

Back in gimp-pre2.0 I just tweaked the source and recompiled. Havent' gotten
around to doing that for gimp2.2. I know it would be better if I made this a
customizable value (since I choose 100 quality back then), but I'm not a coder
(only a re-coder).
specifically: ~gimp/plug-ins/common/jpeg.c
I'm not sure if this has already been suggested, but what worked for me is:
locate glib-2.0.pc
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="result"
i.e.
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$(locate glib-2.0.pc)

As mentioned, the exif header info in the jpg is telling kuickshow how to
rotate the image. After editing in Gimp, you can use "jpegtran" to change the
exif info (to not rotate).
jpegtran -rotate 90 file.jpg > newfile.jpg
this is a lossless conversion, only effecting the exif header.

Make a copy of the layer, then "Select Region by Color" then cut the selection.

You are essentially building a panoramic - or stitching photos together. You
can take a look at:
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=7295
It shouldn't be too hard to do what you want manually as well.
1. Open A.jpg
2. Image->Canvas Size (increase canvas size in whatever dimension needed)
(whoops - sorry gimpers, responded to the wrong note)
For merging two movies - you may want to check out "blender", don't know if it
does what your after, but looks like it might.

I've never used blender so don't really know, but you may want to check
it out - it looks like it may do your frame interleafing(?).

Press release looks good. I would change the phrase "channels and layers" to
"channels, layers and masks". Or somehow advertise that Gimp
has masks (something that Photoshop Elements 2.0 is lacking btw).

Done - enhancement 136861 has been opened - including a mockup. Thanks for the
encouragement (and the fine gimp product). Being able to interact directly

I've been using the color pickers (in 2.0pre), but I want to show some of the
magic behind the scenes - showing how the RGB values change as you color
correct. The concept of reference points also helps when trying to assess and
manipulate exposure latitude - marking reference points then compar

I see the same behavior with my wacom table
You could follow this technique using "blue" for your "sepia" tone.

I'm having trouble with Scissors (Select Shape from Image) in Pre2.0.
Sometimes I can close the selection with a shift-click on the beginning point,
then click in the middle of the outline and I get the marching ants. But other
times I try to Shift-click to close the path(?) then click in the mi

You could also check out "montage" which is part of Imagemagick.

Sorry to quote Sven out of context, this was regarding a user on 1.2.2 - two
years out of date. My point was that I've noticed several
notes from users on really old versions - 1. is this a problem? 2. is it worth
fixing?
I assume anyone using developer versions knows to check for recent update

I see this statement a lot - i.e. users using really old versions of Gimp.
Would it be reasonable/feasible to add a hook into gimp that checks it's age

Adding a few more details to Sven's description regarding cropping -
Using gimp1.3 (highly recommended IMHO),
Select the Rect-Select tool,
change "Free Select" to "Fixed Aspect Ratio"
Enter an aspect ratio (I use 50 and 70 for a 5x7 print, or 35 and 50 for
3.5x5,...)

Hold down the Alt key, then move the selection frame. Note that Alt is often

I've tried some of the cropping plug-ins but either I don't understand how to

So what happens when you try this? Does the whole window move (i.e. including
the title bar?). If so you need to check your ALT-Click-1 bindings. If using
KDE check out the KDE Control panel, if using sawfish - check out Window
