I have been trying to call the GIMP with a Norwegian user interface, but without success. I don't know if the GIMP uses locales, but in the not-so-distant past, the locales for Norwegian language changed. The new locales for Norwegian are nb_NO Norwegian bokmal nn_NO Norwegian nynorsk Norway

Sven/ Just like misfit-x pointed out already, this is of course completely wrong. /etc/ld.so.conf has nothing to do with pkg-config. I would strongly suggest to take a short look at the man-pages before doing such changes. It certainly helps to know what files you are editing. Point well taken.
