I'm pretty sure that you can use Gimp:Perl to access image data and perform
small tasks. I've not done it yet, but yes, something of this nature seems
entirely possible. Circling areas of common color with a marquee.

hmmm dunno if youre looking to just place the letters around the image or
actually curve them... anyway came up with his using the gimps text tool and
the curve bend filter if this is what you are looking for lemme know and ill
go more into depth on it if you need.

This issue has been brought up many times on both gimp-user and
gimp-dev... and making them subscriber only would decrease their
usefulness so is not an option. i'm afraid we just have to live wit
