Pete, the fact that you are using Ubuntu or any other Linux OS or LiveCD to
install Gentoo would not cause the problem you are describing. Such a problem
is related to the *correct* mounting of /mnt/gentoo, /p

Eh? You list /fixit/dev and get files in /mnt/dev, did you symlink
/fixit to /mnt?
I would have expected
ls -l /fixit/dev/{console,null}
crw-
so,i don't known what problem,but swap issue and issue.devfix,and
there no warning ...

What, exactly, did you try?
The step you didn't do (or didn't do correclty) was during the
install. Did you re-do the install from the beginning and make sure
that step was done properly?

My /etc/modprobe.d directory is under configuration management using

This is all very confusing unless you know the history of evdev, which most
sane people don't know. (I obviously don't qualify as san

Hi. I am trying to use my unstable gentoo on kernel 2.6.36-gentoo-r6
and when I emerge nvidia-drivers, I get invalid argument when I try to
modprobe the module. I could not find a bug anywhere -- is this a too
recent kernel for him?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Did you remember to repoint the /usr/src/linux link? IIRC the module is

With my AMD Phenom, v-4.0.0 doesn't work at all. After clicking on the
icon (or running /usr/bin/VirtualBox - a link
to /opt/VirtualBox/VBox.sh), nothing happens -- specifically VBox's
window doesn't appear.
After reverting to v-3.2.12-r2, all is fine.
FWIW, I'm using virtualbox-bin.

Yesterday's weekly system update brought 2 small noticeable improvements.

The other change led to a small improvement, but also a query.
I installed the latest stable boost-1.42.0-r2 + boost-build-1.42.0 ,
which go in new slots; I also updated to icu-4.6 + numpy-1.5.1
(the latter is probably irrelevant here, but Icu is needed for OO).
