Just curious about Gentoo users estimated compile times on AMD Ryzen
Threadripper Pro 5965WX and AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
I mean packages like firefox, gentoo-kernel, chromium, libreoffice.

Do you think AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5965WX is a good choice for
doing lots of compiling stuff on Gentoo?
Do you recommend to use all in one cooling or invest into custom
water cooling system? Is it true that heat cooling isn't a good idea in
my case?

Is it necessary to set system locale and timezone before I update world

How does situation look in binary-based distros like Debian, Arch? Is
rsyncing old Debian or Arch installation to PC with new processor or

Like in subject, do you gentoo users trust gentoo-zh and pentoo
overlays?

Is it necessary to reinstall Gentoo if I change CPU or motherboard? If
not, what steps should be done on the existing Gentoo installation? Do I
need to do these operations from chroot?

I want to compile gentoo-sources for educational purposes and I need

How can I check what files does provide not installed package in the system? I
mean something like apt-file search irssi provided that irssi is not installed.
e-file from pfl only performs reverse checks, which file belong to what ebuild
Do you, Gentoo users use Gentoo on main desktop, server or do you have
installed Gentoo system on low resource hardware like network appliances,
netbooks, on dockers, lxc containers, virtual machines too?
Where you wouldn't install Gentoo, even if you are Gentoo power users?
Does make sense buying new router or just repurposing this PC will be a better
idea?

Can you recommend some Mikrotik model? I have an 8 Gbps optical fiber

in the far future so router should have one 10 Gbps Ethernet port.

Hello,
I'm going to run on my server a few services for me and friends like
static HTML pages, gitea, jabber server, and mailing lists.
Are there any advantages from putting Linux on encrypted root at bare metal
server if I often access remotely server from ssh, and sometimes need to reboot
it?
er in one day?
I mean running Gentoo arm64 from official hat providing nvme support,
not microSD card.
Will compile times be similar to achieved on my old Lenovo ThinkPad
X220? If so, that would be acceptable for me.
Thank you, whiteman808
ut maybe there might be things that I should take care of?

I like Gentoo too. Stable, mature system, never had issues with it. Only
installation and initial configuration is time consuming, after you
install what you need, set USE flags etc. the difficulty level of
administrating it is not greater than using Ubuntu or Debian. I use
Gentoo both on server an

Hello,
I'm writing a Gentoo ebuild for .NET project, and I'm looking for a tip on how
to quickly populate the NUGETS variable in it required by the dotnet-pkg eclass.
I will be happy if someone tell how to do that, whiteman808
