Some time ago, I noticed that whenever I ran my semi-weekly 'emerge
-uavD world', some packages were given in bold. For a while I thought
perhaps they were more system-critical packages, but upon further
investigation I could find no sort of pattern to which packages were
being bolded and which we
lt settings has a black background for me, and I think
Konsole does also.

It would seem to me that your DHCP server is not set correctly. Can you
post your /etc/resolv.conf? That would help. Also, try pinging
216.239.51.99. This is the IP of www.google.com.
