I would also like to echo the comments below.
For me, I would like to see added the ability to employ XSLT on the
server side to pre-generate DHTML pages from XAP page templates,
especially for initial page loads.

Declarative technology works. XML is the lingua franca today (like it
or hate it) and enjoys tool support.
That is the reason something like XAP is a good idea.
