or the other, I would like some sort of namespacing or subdirectory
awareness in linked symbols. For example, I have a project with two

I suspect the TO-92A/B/C notation comes from some layout package, and
that is why other packages use other terminology. It is not in the
original TO-92 spec, which is available free (registration required)
from JEDEC at http://www.jedec.org/standards-documents/focus/register
It's hard to be sure from the picture, though my best guess matches
yours. If you want to be sure, take a look in the data sheet for the
package markings section. It will tell you what to look for.
