Thanks for the suggestions, DJ. Unfortunately, there's really no room for a pc
where I have the microscope set up, and most laptops don't even have parallel
ports any more. Plus running a full-blown pc just to drive a microscope seems
like rather a waste of electricity.

Hi, electronics gurus! I'm looking for suggestions on the best inexpensive way

The application is using a joystick to drive the the platform positioning knobs

My bicycle trainer uses an eddy current brake; there are no wires anywhere in

Plain text files can also be used for databases, as long as you have the
correct drivers. There is an ODBC driver for text files in windows, and I've
seen a database engine that used plain text files for its data stores, though I
don't recall the name right now.

Are Kill-a-watt meters any good? I just got one for my company to check
loading on UPSs and racks of equipment. Seems ok when I plugged it in and
compared its reading to the 5-light load indicator on the UPS.

One possibility would be to do something similar to what Cisco does with the
GUI they have for their security appliances: a gui that handles basic setup,
and issues commands in their standard cli format to the appliance. But the gui
is optional, and if you want to use just the cli because that
