I suspect a reload bug, what asmcons is just unnecessary, not wrong.
Reload shouldn't ever reload different asm output registers into the same
hard registers.

The right answer is probably to declare the system header functions "inline"
when __GNUC_STDC_INLINE__, otherwise "extern inline"; or equivalently to

When compiled with gcc 4.1.2 the program below dies with SIGXFSZ on Linux.
I don't think the standard allows filebuf to report errors using signals
(since it describes file I/O in terms of C stdio), nor does a signal seem
desirable in C++.

the original code uses -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-gcse -O2. I can verify that
-O3 fixes the issue.

By disabling asserts, we can compare -O2 call frame for va-arg-25.c test
vs. what would -Os call frame look like:

Since 4.x, libssp has had to be disabled for the AVR. Libssp is not required
for building the AVR. I've been meaning to reopen this bug report for a while.

Actually the code in var-tracking.c does handle the situation that a reg
contains multiple decls. Or better it tries to. If there weren't an
obvious bug in clobber_variable_part(). With that fixed the looping doesn't

The problem occurs equally with gnu89 "extern inline" functions as with c99
"inline" functions (as seen in the initial bug report), so using static inline

The immediate problem is that the solution iterates between two orders.
On my machine (i686) it all happen around basic block 231. The even
iterations (after 128 iterations) the var-track info for bb 231 starts with:

I looked at this code once but I really do not know this code at all and really
do not want to learn it. It will take a fair amount of time to try to figure
