As a work-around, configure with --disable-libmudflap, you don't need that
library anyway, it is an instrumentation library for memory access violations
for C and C++, so you don't need it for gfortran.

This error does not make sense.
First what target is this? x86_64-pc-linux-gnu? I compile gcc all the time on
this target. Also what gcc version are you trying to compile?
