could be installed automatically under control of a configuration
option (e.g.), or as a result of the configuration script's detecting
a non-standard prefix. (Well, actually, I think his patch has to
modified for recent versions; doesn't 4.x compile them into the source
files?).

he current behavior has to be supported, but isn't it a little odd
as a default?
Comments and instructions as to how to configure my local GCC builds to
do what I want by default (which in this case means recording the path to
the non-standard library in the executables) welcome. Thanks.
