i've been compiling the latest devel release of fvwm2 and despite having
gnome and its libraries installed the configure script does not find
them. perhaps i need to add an option to configure to point it to
those libraries but i'm not sure as the INSTALL & INSTALL.fvwm files do
not say.

ah, that'll be why then. When i saw the output from configure and the
line i posted

i thought i'd try out the mouse gestures feature i read about when
looking on the net, etc and compiled libstroke-0.5.1. i recompiled fvwm
and it picked up the libstroke library; however, when i start the wm it
exits and the error says it's libstroke can't open shared libraries.
does this mean

this works really well! why wont it be applied? it solves my problem and i know
