Hi FS users,
None of the FreeSurfer distribution downloads are working. Using Safari on Mac

Must have to do with server maintenance or something. Check back in a couple
of hours, most likely they are working on it.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and have the same problem only when working with 4.5
version (I also use 5.1 version without any problem).
I have followed previous suggestions making a symbolic link named
libtiff.so.3, but it gives me back the message "denied permission".

Dear all,
I run a controls vs patients thickness analysis using qdec and got
several results. Now, it is not entirely clear to me how to refine my
surface-based analysis (still using qdec) into a ROI, the middle
orbitofrontal region.
Cheers,

After consulting with Opentext, the company that makes Exceed 3D, it
turns out that the problem as described earlier
was a Mesa GLX compatibility issue (and thus not directly related to
freesurfer.):
This solution solved the problem:

Hi Daniel
You get permission denied because you need write permissions for /usr/
lib ( wherever libtiff.so.3 is ).
If you think you have the permissions, prefix your "ln" command with a
"sudo" and it'll ask for your password, and that should work
successfully.
If you don't have permissions,
Good afternoon,
It is for the first time I am using FreeSurfer and I used only a little
the old version V.5.0. For this version my environment variable was
FREESURFER_HOME. If I am still having my old version V. 5.0 and also I
downloawded the new realeased version how I can install my new versi
the easiest thing to do in your case is just to install v5.1 overtop
your existing freesurfer installation, then you dont have to change any
of the environment variables.

on the tutorial page:
https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/FsTutorial/QdecGroupAnalysis
at the end there is a section on how to manually draw an ROI (must do so
on the inflated surface), which you would then map to each subject after
which stats info can be extracted and from there an analysi
Hi Nick,
Thank you for your response. I carefully read the whole tutorial but
still did not find what I was looking for.
I don't want to manually draw an ROI but rather use one of the
existing labels (i.e. the middle orbitofrontal). Moreover, I don't
wanto to extract mean ROI thickness and an

Hi All
I'm receiving an error with mri_cvs_register from FS 5.1 on a 64-bit Mac

subjects I've tried it on, and occurs both before and after using the
mri_cvs_register that was updated on Jun 10th. I'm including the last few

Hi David,
I usually get PETSC errors when I have files from a previous unsuccessful
runs of cvs and mri_cvs_register is trying to overwrite the same set of
files. I've always found that deleting all the cvs related files before
starting mri_cvs_register from scratch usually solves the issue. You c
Hello Experts,
I apologise for the stupidity of this question, but I am not used to using
Linux, but I need to uninstall my Freesurfer from the Desktop and then

Thanks for the advice Priti,
I deleted the old cvs files and re-ran but still no luck. I also tried a new
subject on a different Mac (still 10.6.7) and received the same error.
Thanks

Hey All,
Is there anywhere I can download just the newest version of the qdec files
($FREESURFER_HOME/bin/: qdec, qdec_glmfit and qdec.bin)? I want the abilities
of the newer qdec but want to keep the version of freesurfer I have to keep my
current data consistent.
Thank you,

to uninstall, just delete the freesurfer directory. the install is just
to untar the tar.gz file thats downloaded. if you were root when
installing (untarring) then you will need to be root when deleting.

i've posted qdec.bin and mri_glmfit for the linux_centos4,
linux_centos4_x86_64 and macos-leopard-i686 platforms to this location:
ftp://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/pub/dist/freesurfer/misc
you can copy those to your freesurfer/bin dir without worry of affecting
existing processed results.
