When you to the parcellations in autorecon3, you get an unknown volume
in middle of the brain. What exactly is in this unknown volume, and why
does it label it as such?

it means it's not part of cortex (usually on the medial wall where the
surface crosses things like the callosum, the thalamus, the ventricles,
etc...)

I was running recon-all -autorecon1 -s bert and it
exited with errors..
Processing...
Not implemented yet in cache _volume _range _has _
changed()...
IS there anything wrong in the way i've run the
command??

Can you send the recon-all.log file? The 'Not implemented...' message is
a normal warning message (part of the MNI tools) and is generally not the
source of an exit error.

looks like the error is at the skull stripping
step...here's how it exited...
