Looks like someone is doing an analysis outside of freesurfer, and this
is the uptake in the "unknown" region of cortex (ie, a part that is not

Dear FreeSurfer Support,
I am writing this letter to inquire about the labeling system for
Desikan/Killiany atlas.
Specifically, we would like to ask whether the label "CTX_LH_UNKNOWN_SUVR"
shall be included for the anaylsis or not.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking about. Do you mean in the
aseg.mgz or the aparc+aseg.mgz? Unknown is usually just stuff outside of
the head, but sometimes can be in the head (eg, with aparc+aseg.mgz).

Dear fellow colleagues,
in my study I use volumetric source spaces. In the process of creating
them, I decided to identify all available volumelabels FreeSurfer
"recognized" in the given mri image.
Every single subject inherits, despite all other volumelabels, a
volumelabel called "Unknown".
Hi Bruce,
I forgot to ask why my data does not include an unknown region in my
aparc.stats file? My stats data starts with bankssts region and continue with
caudalanteriorcingulate, etc. Do I need to have the unknown region if I use the
new version of the FS 5.1.0?
Thank you.
Antonella

I think unknown is the medial wall area that is non-cortical, so should
be ignored

In one study we are conducting we found significant difference in cortical
thickness between the two groups in some areas. One of those areas are
lh_unknown.
Is this an error or it's a still unlabelled area?
thanks
