Many of the vertices will have 0 value because they are in the medial
wall where there is no cortex. Is this the case with the vertices you
have found?

both hemispheres, but different vertices in each one.

ran:
recon-all -s {subject} -qcache
where {subject} is the subject ID. This was followed by `mris_convert` to
