if recon-all works then you must have a license file. Are you sure that
FREESURFER_HOME is defined in your environment and points to the right
place? That's where we look for the license file (then in
/Applications/freesurfer on the mac if FREESURFER_HOME isn't defined in
the env0

At the current stage I can run recon-all and get the results without problems.
If the license would not work I couldn't be able to run it.
Can someone send me the type of license file I should generate?
In the website it says that I should get a license.txt by email, but I didn't
get any file ju
Is the file you created located in /Applications/freesurfer?

Dear all,
I am trying to display a volumetric file to a surface using mri_vol2surf and
then tksurfer.
Here is the error message I get.
I have obtained the email with the few license lines to copy in a file (that i
created) name license.txt
I created a new file and erased the existing LICENSE

Hello,
Please refrain from sending the contents of the license file in the open
to the freesurfer list.
Unfortunately this is a known issue for all Opensuse platforms versions
greater than 12.1 and there are two potential solutions. The first is to
copy /lib64/libcrypt-2.14.1.so from an Opensu
Dear FS,
I received my license e-mail for the upteenth time and converted the
mail to license.txt in the $FREESURFER_HOME directory, but I stll get
an error message:

Thanks again for the answers, I have now got it working. It was my
fault, I thought the name should be libcrypt.so and not as I found out
it should be libcrypt.so.1.
So the solution for OpenSUSE 12.3 (64 bit) is to copy e.g.
/lib64/libcrypt-2.14.1.so from an OpenSUSE 12.1 installation to
/lib
Thank you Nick for informing the list of this workaround.

Regarding any license issue under Opensuse 12.3 and the libcrypt
incompatibility.
So grab a libcrypt from an older opensuse (one where freesurfer was working,
for me, I used libcrypt.so from 11.3, but 12.1 may be a better candidate if it
works). Place it somewhere ($FREESURFER_HOME/lib is a go
yes, this probably relates to the recent crypt problems. Zeke: do you
know how this was resolved? Unfortunately Nick is away for a while longer
and won't be responding

Hi, there,
I installed FreeSurfer under my local directory few months ago.
Last week, I copied all the FreeSurfer folder under my local directory (include
.license file) to the /home directory of our group, so
everyone can use it. However, it turns out that they can not use it even they

Hi Tracy,
it looks like there is some line before the email address, and before the
other 2 lines as well. If you cat the .license they should show up as three
consecutive lines with no blank lines between them. Try looking at it in
emacs.

I've pasted the error message (and all the preceding command lines) below.
I'm using the latest version of ubuntu in virtualbox. I made the .license
file w/ pico, and it looks fine to me, but it's just not working.
Thanks for any help!
