My solution has been to run DOSVNC (I did this a couple years ago) and
setup Xvnc to run from inetd and setup gdm on my linux server.

I'm looking for some kind of way to run X Window over my 486, so I can use
it as an X terminal for my Linux box, and there's a DOS one under the GUI

No, Rakhesh, you can't just copy the floppy boot sector to the hard disk.
First, because it's a different file system, and second and most important
- because the boot sector data is different. That's the role of the
BOOTSECT's -W (write) command - to replace the boot sector code without

Lucho,
Thanks for those bootsectors. :)
One quick question -- I have a Windows XP startup disk, and since that
startup disk can be used to invoke ntldr and show the usual boot options

Rakhesh, here's another one - my Windows 2003 bootsector I extracted using
"BOOTSECT 0 -P -R BSW2K3.BIN" - may it work for you. Write it using
"BOOTSECT 0 -P -W BSW2K3.BIN". Good luck!

Is there any way I can restore the XP bootsector?
Someone who has XP can use the Lance Costanzo's BOOTSECT utility at
http://www.kzin.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?/utillc/bootsect to extract his XP
boot sector (e.g. BOOTSECT C: -P -R XPBS.BIN), send you, and you write it
