I have been experimenting with getting a WDS AP paired. I believe I
have succeeded. Both APs are running FreeBSD and have atheros cards.
I have, on the lounge AP:
wlans_ath0="wlan0 wlan1"
create_args_wlan0="wlanmode hostap"
create_args_wlan1="wlanmode wds wlanbssid bc:30:7d:78:54:b7 wdslega

I am wondering if the AR9462 is supported on FreeBSD 10.1 in hostap mode.

Suggest to me that it might be, because it seems that -9 was the current
